Saratoga Regional YMCA
We have changed our name!
With the recent growth and expansion, we
are reaching residents beyond Saratoga County with the new
Battenkill Branch in Greenwich, NY. We are expanding into
Washington County. We need our name to reflect our growth.
You will see all publications, the Y website, signage,
etc...utilize our new name, Saratoga Regional YMCA. And, with
the brand revitalization we are implementing with YMCA's all over the
world, this is a perfect time to move in this direction.
With our new name and logo, our mission isn't
changing. Our goal is to be better able to
communicate what we stand for, our shared values and considerable
impact.
The Y: For youth development, healthy living and
social responsibility.

Dealing with Stress
Between the frenzy of school and holiday parties,
shopping, cooking, and spending, sometimes the spirit of the season
seems anything but happy. Stress, over-extended schedules, and concerns
over how the money just seems to be flying out of the wallet can turn
the season of joy to that of anxiety and hassle. But parents can turn
the holidays into a time of family and cherished quality time. How?
Here are a few ways to help families reconnect and enjoy the season.
The
Gift of Time.
Many parents trying to force holiday spirit on their family through
movies, shopping, extra activities, and often with the result of
overload. The best gift a parent can give is time! Kids love evenings
by a fire with hot cocoa and reading holiday books, and may prefer a
holiday video watched together as a family than waiting in line at a
busy movie theatre. Family games, walks in the park, and even looking
at holiday lights.
The
Gift of Sharing.
It's
better to give than to receive, right? Then turn the saying into a true
practice by volunteering TOGETHER as a family. Where? How? The options
are endless. A best bet is to choose as a family. Here are some
options to get the brainstorming started: Salvation Army bell ringers,
helping to sort and inventory items at a local food bank or clothing
collection agency, or helping to groom and care for animals at a local
shelter.
The Gift of Health.
Your kids likely can tell when you're feeling overwhelmed or tense. How
you deal with those feelings sends them a powerful message. Perhaps you
have your own set of positive stress
busters like listening
to music, reading a book, taking a bath, or working in a garden. Add
walking to the list! It's a fun, free, easy activity. Tell your kids,
"I'm having a rough day. I'm going for a walk." See if 30
minutes of brisk walking helps your feel better and improves your
outlook. Your kids will notice the positive change in you! When they
see how you use walking as a tool to manage stress, they are more
likely to use it themselves.
